Perhaps nothing was more central to Paul's being a man God greatly used than his passion to know God intimately. "That I may know Him" (Phil. 3:10 KJV) expressed the deepest desire of his heart. Paul didn't claim to be perfect except in one way-his wholehearted desire to follow Christ.

When our ministries are no longer about us, but about God, He will be able to say of us as He did of Cyrus: "I am the Lord...who says of Cyrus, 'He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please'" (Isa. 44:24, 28). If the Lord says. "What I want you to accomplish is to be obscure, noticed only in Heaven," we reply, "My joy is in pleasing You, so I am satisfied if You are glorified."

When this desire flows freely from our hearts, God exclaims with great delight, "You are a leader I will use!"
